hi u no wot problem i got.. basically there r loads of different coloured lines running through my computer screen.

  2. yahmeboy says

the first thing to do when you have this kind of problem is to disconnect it from the power source. if you unscrew the frame of the lcd you will find a piece of circuit board where the power and other adjustment button is placed. now the problem is with in that area. try to re solder the capacitors, resistors are if you can see a blouted piece try to replace it with the same value, or simply replace the whole circuit board with the same brand and model of it.. hope this helps you folks..

Hey bikercc, what’s the final result? It has passed 2 years from launching the question.
Here’s some answers but not a certain result …!!

one o more backlights are defectives,
also you need to check the inverter,
look for a technician as i to do the work.
    you will need special tools.

  7. potc420 says

The inverter will shut itself off if too much or not enough powere is being used. I happened to have another 19 inch monitor (phillips) that had a smashed screen so i pulled the backlights from it and swapped em into the dell. Now it works fine and doesn’t shut off after one second. Take a flashlight and press it directly into the screen to see if there is still an image there when it goes black

I just fixed a dell 19 inch yesterday with this problem. First I’d tell you to open it up and do as lots have suggested and look for bad caps. I replaced all of em in mine just so none of them were the cheap chinese ones. That didn’t fix the problem for me though it may for you. Mine actually had a bad backlight. I tested all four of them seperatly and they all did work but one was about to go and it was throwing the inverter off.

    CAPS!!! Capacitors

    Capacitors!!
check all of em and make sure there are none that are bulging ..they all should have a flat top.

CRT’s are great, i got nearly a whole room full of random computer pieces, and there’s loads of CRTs in there, got most of them for free off people, my mate once gave me a whole Packard Bell computer and 17″ Hi-RES CRT for free! :)

Thats for a totally diferent problem and it would be computer based not monitor. The case fan would be at full til and wouldnt display windows like that.

  13. Dellm40 says

My acer does the same thing. Pull the back cover off, then the metal sheild (exposing the boards) And on the acer there is a 1.25″ cube in yellow plastic on the power side, On mine i just rub my fingers around and it powers up (might take a few tries)

you know you can say “Shit” right.. -.-

  16. giltabz says

for that “Monitor blackout” to stop you can turn off your monitor for 7 to 15mins and turn it on again. It will stop but it will occur or you can have your monitor or your RAM checked

  17. returntosender666 says

the truth is the computer is telling you its time to buy a new one but in reality all computers are like that to make people buy new up to date computers…

  18. VaderNES says

    1. Tellys are not made for usage with computers. If you use a CRT monitor, you will see how excellent it is.

    2. I haven’t the money to start a company, nor the equipment.

Very Smooth. The last time I remember hooking a CRT TV to a PC was in the mid 90s and you cant compare it looked like total garbage. Very blurred no clarity and all the colors were washed out I think it was a Magnavox. So like I said Bring back the good ol days of the Red White & Blue start a North American CRT manufacturing corporation. Or invent something. Cause when yours does go out you’ll be going to the thrift stores.

  20. VaderNES says

Like LCD monitors are smooth? LCDs cannot even come close to a CRT’s refresh rate. The technology cannot do so. Furthermore, CRTs lack a native resolution, and look good at any resolution that you want. LCDs cannot do that.

Furthermore, there are no LCD monitors or tellys that are made in the United States or Japan. They are all shittily made in Red China or Mexico.

  21. WHATyouCANTbe says

Your 60Mhz to 120Mhz refresh rates? Don’t think so. Maybe you should start a North American CRT manufacturing corporation. I’m sure demand is high. lol

  22. VaderNES says

Out of all of those countries, only Taiwan made outsourced goods in 1979 or 1980, and even then, Japan made most electronic components then. In fact, I’ve cracked-open many ’70s electronics, and even Taiwanese-made ones have Japanese components.

The tube was made in the United States, like most tube tellys of American brands (even as late as the ’90s.

Also, my LCD monitor was set-up correctly.

Furthermore, the movement is smoother on my CRTs, thanks to my great refresh rate.

  23. WHATyouCANTbe says

What was the brand? Its all in the specs and calibrations for room light. Dont be mad cause there not plug and play. A LCD set up right, will look as clear as a clean window looking outside. And I still guarantee if you open that 1980 TV up the capacitors, resistors, boards and so on will say made in china, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, …… It will.

  24. VaderNES says

It is, in fact, much sharer than an LCD Telly. Keep in mind that it was made by Magnmavox in Greeneville, Tn, USA, in February of 1980. Magnavox made some fine electronics then. That is why my set works 100% after 29 years, and has a sharp picture.

LCDs, on the other hand, have a shite picture. I used to own an LCD monitor, and it looked like shite. The picture was blurry and overly-bright. It was a computer monitor, too, which usually have a better picture than Tellys.

  25. WHATyouCANTbe says

P.S. Standard Definition looks like crap on a big LCD cause all your resolution (pixils) are being stretched from a small picture. Thats why the air ways have switched to digital so it can handle the 720 and 1080 resolution loads. So you can have that crystal clear picture you don’t have on your Magnavox.
